Hepatitis Serological Markers Assessment and Risk Analysis of Intern Dentistry Students

Hakan Kamalak

Objectives: Many dentists and medical doctors are at risk for infectious diseases. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is one of them. HBV infection is common in the world and in our country. Health care workers are in the top spot in the rankings of HBV risk. The importance and prevention of this disease should be explained by educating physician. The aim of this study is to evaluate the HBV serologic level of 113 preclinical students. Methods: ELISA test results were asked from preclinical students. HBSAg of HBV serologic markers, Anti-HCV, Anti-HAV and anti-HBs results were evaluated using IBM SPSS Statistics 21. Results: One of the female students among preclinical students was identified to have positive HBV. 3 were found not to HBV vaccination. Because 8 people didn’t take all doses of HBV vaccine, anti-HBs results were lower. Significance: It was determined that students have risk of HBV and those who are susceptible to HBV have to be necessarily vaccinated and their serological tests must be periodically followed.
