Enzymes play a crucial role in catalyzing biological reactions, making them attractive targets for drug development. Understanding the catalytic mechanisms of enzymes provides valuable insights into their function and regulation, enabling the design of effective therapeutic strategies. This review explores the catalytic mechanisms employed by enzymes and their implications for drug targeting. The study begins by examining the fundamental principles of enzyme catalysis, including the active site, substrate binding, and the chemical reactions involved. Various catalytic strategies, such as acid-base catalysis, covalent catalysis, and metal ion catalysis, are discussed in detail, emphasizing their significance in enzyme function. Next, the review explores the relationship between enzyme structure and catalytic mechanism.
